Why pay for a calculator?
Because the rules move. Rates, bands and credits change every Budget, and PRSI changed part-way through 2026. Premium is what pays for somebody to check each figure against Revenue and keep the tools current.
The basic calculator stays free and unlimited, with no account.
A worked example: 1,400 hours worked in the leave year
30 normal hours a week, 4 days, €14 an hour, nothing taken yet.
| Hours worked in the year | 1400 h |
|---|---|
| Entitlement (8 % method) | 120 h |
| In days of your week | 16 days |
| Value at €14 an hour | €1,680.00 |
The 8 % method caps at four working weeks.
How to read it
Irish law gives three ways to work out annual leave, and you get whichever gives most: four working weeks if you worked at least 1,365 hours; one third of a week per month in which you worked at least 117 hours; or 8 % of hours worked, capped at four weeks. For part-time and variable hours the 8 % method usually wins, which is why it is used here. Leave accrues on hours worked, so it builds up during paid sick leave and maternity leave too — a common thing for employers to get wrong.
The figures in this example are produced by the same engine as the calculator above, using the 2026 tax year data. If a rule changes, they change here too.
Holiday entitlement calculator
Irish law gives three ways to work out annual leave, and you are entitled to whichever gives you the most. This tool runs all three, shows which one wins for you, and converts the answer into hours, days and euro.
