Why pay for a calculator?

Because the rules move. Rates, bands and credits change every Budget, and PRSI changed part-way through 2026. Premium is what pays for somebody to check each figure against Revenue and keep the tools current.

The basic calculator stays free and unlimited, with no account.

A worked example: a 17:00 → 01:00 shift with a 30-minute unpaid break

€13.50 an hour, plus a Sunday shift at 1.33×.

Shift length 17:00 → 01:008 h
Hours at work, both shifts16 h
Paid hours after breaks15 h
Two shifts, gross€235.95

The engine flags that the first shift crosses midnight (yes): it belongs to the day it started, and it is eight hours, not sixteen. Average rate across both shifts: €15.73.

How to read it

Two things go wrong most often with hospitality shifts. First, shifts that cross midnight: 17:00 to 01:00 is eight hours, not sixteen and not seven, and a rota that records it on the wrong day can lose you an hour. Second, unpaid breaks are deducted from paid time but not from time at work — which is what the minimum-wage check uses. Add a Sunday premium on top and the same nominal rate produces quite different weeks, which is why it is worth totalling a real rota rather than multiplying an average.

The figures in this example are produced by the same engine as the calculator above, using the 2026 tax year data. If a rule changes, they change here too.

Built for hospitality and retail hours: shifts that finish after midnight, breaks that are not paid, and Sunday or bank holiday rates that differ from the rest of the week. Add your shifts, see the week total, and export it before you check your payslip.

This is an estimate

The result is based on the figures you entered and the rules published for the selected tax year. Your actual pay depends on your Revenue record, your contract and your employer’s payroll.

Common questions

How do I log a shift that finishes after midnight?
Enter the start and end times as they are — 22:00 to 06:00. When the end time is earlier than the start, the shift is treated as running into the next day.
Should I subtract my break?
Subtract it if it is unpaid, which is the default in Ireland. Enter zero if your employer pays your breaks.
Why is the net estimate approximate?
It assumes you work this same pattern all year. If your hours change from week to week, the annual picture — and so the tax — changes with them.
